More Than Just a Little Something to Celebrate… The Good Food Guide 2017

The Good Food Guide 2017 top 50 restaurants list has just been released and The Forest Side, Grasmere, has gone straight in at No 37, achieving a score of seven for the quality of the food produced by Head Chef Kevin Tickle and his team.

We also picked up a further top accolade in this year’s Guide, scooping ‘Best New Entry’ in its Editors’ Awards.

The Good Food Guide’s annual Top 50 restaurant ranking is one of the most highly regarded in the business, recognising the very best talent in the country, with ‘each position earned by its score in The Good Food Guide, editor appraisal and strength of reader feedback’.

A top score of ten means ‘just perfect dishes, showing faultless technique at every service; extremely rare, and the highest accolade the Guide can give’.

Speaking about Forest Side, Elizabeth Carter, said: “For the second year running the Lake District has supplied our best new restaurant entry – there must be something in the water! It was the energy and confidence coming from the kitchen that grabbed our attention. Kevin Tickle, former forager and chef for Simon Rogan, is in charge of the ambitious but unstuffy restaurant, a hive of endeavour thanks to the gathering, growing, brewing and preserving that form part of his loving, careful tribute to the flavours of Cumbria.”

Forest Side’s Head Chef Kevin Tickle, is clearly tickled pink, adding: ‘’I’m completely blown away to be entering The Good Food Guide with such a high score in our first year. It’s the icing on the cake to be recognised as ‘Best New Entry’ in their Editors’ Awards. I’m incredibly proud of my team who have helped in creating such a strong foundation. The food we create at the Forest Side is all about its surroundings and its sense of place. Our plates are a reflection of our passion for this place we are lucky to call home.’’
