Forest Side No 30 in the Good Food Guide

Forest Side, Grasmere, is in the awards’ limelight again bagging two top-notch accolades this week, one for the quality of the restaurant’s wine list, the other recognising the gastro getaway’s food.

Head Sommelier Charles Carron Brown discovered this week that his wine list has been recognised with an AA Notable Wine List Award, one of only 238 awarded in the country from over 1000 entrants.

Each year this prestigious award is presented to restaurants who hold a diverse list of high-quality wines. The judges look for a range of grapes and/or countries and styles, as well as wines from the best individual growers and vintages. Not only that winners also have to show a real knowledge and passion for wine, so that guests can be assured of a choice of the very best wines to complement their award-winning food.

But that’s not all, Forest Side’s Head Chef, Kevin Tickle, discovered late last night that the hotel’s restaurant has been listed in the Good Food Guide’s top 50 UK restaurants for 2018. With the Grasmere eatery this year moving up the list seven places to number 30, after entering the guide for the first-time last year at number 37 and as Best Newcomer.

Speaking about the AA’s Notable Wine List Award Head Sommelier Charles Carron Brown, said: ‘’As a team, we are delighted to have achieved this award for the first time this year. Maintaining the quality of our wine list, whilst striving to improve our offering with new and interesting wines is a daily challenge we all relish. I’m especially proud to see that the time, care and passion shown to our list has been recognised and we look forward to bettering ourselves in the year ahead.”

Commenting on Forest Side’s positioning in the 2018 Good Food Guide’s Top 50, Head Chef Kevin Tickle, said: ‘’I’m over the moon that we have moved up the list and massively proud of my team who have helped in cementing our position as one of the top restaurants in the Northwest and in the UK. The food we create at the Forest Side is all about our passion for this amazing county we are lucky to call home.’’
