2016 Tour of Britain – Join the Peloton in the Lakes
One things for sure we’ve been captivated by a glorious summer of sport… With highlights including the Tour De France and Rio 2016…
But what you may not be aware of is that it is now it’s the Lake District’s turn… as The Tour of Britain 2016 bike race heads to the region.
On Monday 05th September you’ll be able to see some of the world’s top riders, including Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Wout Poels and Andre Greipel battle it out as they ride from Carlisle to Kendal during Stage 2 of this year’s race.
During the Lake District stage the peloton will tackle a gruelling 188.2 km of riding and 3,779m of climbing, taking in some brutal ascents including the infamous ‘Struggle’!!!
As ever there will be plenty of opportunities to watch the action along the route and get up close and personal to the competing riders…
We’ve chose a couple of highlight spots, including the fast paced action in the heart of Grasmere, as 20 of the world’s leading teams battle it out for the third and final of the day’s sprints. The lead peloton support cars are expected to head down Swan Lane into the village close to 2.10pm…
Our other favourite location at the heart of the action is Bowness (handy for our sister hotel The Ryebeck), where there are several places to catch the action, including Rayrigg Road where lead peloton support cars are expected at approx. 2.37pm or at Long Tail Hill where lead peloton supports cars are expected at approx. 2.40pm – both are perfect spots for catching the thrills and spills of the race before the riders hare off to Kendal and the daunting Beast Banks finish…
