Things to Do Near The Forest Side Rydal Mount & Gardens
Rydal Mount, can be found in the heart of the Lake District, between Ambleside and Grasmere, the poet William Wordsworth lived here with his family from 1813 until his death in 1850. The house was bought by descendants of the poet in 1969, and it is still owned by the Wordsworth family, who continue to use it as a home, which is why to this day it is brim full of a very personal selection of the family’s prized possessions and portraits.
The gardens are well worth a visit too – not many people know that the great bard was a bit of a gardening enthusiast, landscaping and designing the house’s 5 acres of gardens, creating rock pools, terraces and lawns, home to a variety of rare plants and shrubs.
In the summer months you can always enjoy a cuppa in the tea room in the Old Saddlery.
