Things to Do Near The Forest Side Allan Bank
For those who revel in the wonderful countryside around Grasmere and the surrounding Lakes, Allan Bank is a fantastic spot for families and friends to enjoy exploring, whatever the weather. Not only does it provide visitors with an excellent view over Grasmere, but it also provides poetry fans with yet another chance to trace the life and times of William Wordsworth…
Allan Bank is a magical Georgian mansion, and yet another location which inspired some of Wordsworth’s poetry. He lived in the house with his family between 1808 and 1810, and with two rather famous house guests, the poets Thomas de Quincy and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, adding a little something extra to this picturesque destination.
Allan Bank is a great spot for walking, with lots of woodland trails to explore. There’s even a walled garden to discover, and plenty of picnic spots for lunch. Enjoy tea and coffee available on donation, or drop by one of the many village cafés or shops in Grasmere for a bite to eat. As well as being dog-friendly (dogs must be kept on a lead though), Allan Bank is also home to a colony of native Red Squirrels, which if you are quiet can be seen scurrying about plundering feeding stations.
